Spotify Ad Studio Permission Model
Spotify Ad Studio uses a flat, account-level permission model. Each ad account maintains its own team member list, and roles are assigned per user when they are invited. There is no multi-account organization layer -- if you manage multiple Spotify ad accounts, users must be invited to each one separately.
All team management flows through the Team Members section within Account Settings. Users are invited by email and must have (or create) a Spotify account to accept the invitation.
Available Roles
Spotify Ad Studio provides three roles:
| Role | Campaign Creation | Campaign Editing | Reporting | Creatives & Audio | Billing | Team Management |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Admin | Yes | Yes | Full access | Upload, edit, manage | View and manage payment methods | Invite, change roles, remove members |
| Editor | Yes | Yes | Full access | Upload, edit, manage | No access | No access |
| Viewer | No | No | View-only (no export) | View creatives only | No access | No access |
Role-specific details:
- Admin is the only role with billing and team management access. Every ad account needs at least one Admin. If the sole Admin leaves and you need to transfer ownership, contact Spotify Ads support.
- Editor is the primary working role for campaign managers and media buyers. Editors can create campaigns from scratch, upload audio creatives, set targeting, manage budgets, and view all reporting. They cannot add or remove team members or access payment information.
- Viewer provides read-only access to campaign performance and creative assets. Viewers cannot create, edit, or pause anything. This role is appropriate for clients, executives, or stakeholders who need visibility without edit access. Note that Viewers cannot export report data -- they can only view it in the UI.

API and Integration Access
Spotify Ad Studio's API and integration capabilities are more limited than programmatic platforms. Key considerations:
- No public campaign management API -- unlike DSPs, Spotify Ad Studio does not offer a general-purpose API for campaign creation or management. All campaign work happens through the UI.
- Spotify Ads API (beta/limited) -- Spotify has a reporting API available to select partners and agencies. Access requires application through Spotify's partner program and is not tied to Ad Studio user roles.
- Pixel/tracking integrations -- Spotify Ad Studio supports third-party measurement partners (DoubleVerify, IAS, Nielsen) configured at the campaign level. Any Editor or Admin can set up measurement tags within a campaign.
- Conversion tracking -- Spotify's ad tag (pixel) for conversion tracking is managed at the account level. Installing the pixel requires code snippet access, which is available to Admin and Editor roles in the Ad Studio UI.
- OAuth connections -- if using third-party reporting tools that connect to Spotify Ads, the OAuth authentication uses the connecting user's permissions. If that user is later removed, the integration breaks.
Analytics-Specific Permissions
How Spotify Ad Studio roles affect measurement and reporting:
- Campaign performance data -- all three roles can view impression, reach, frequency, and completion rate data in the dashboard. Editors and Admins see it alongside campaign editing tools; Viewers see it read-only.
- Audience insights -- demographic and interest data on reached audiences is visible to all roles. Creating or modifying custom audiences for targeting requires Editor or Admin.
- Conversion reporting -- if the Spotify ad tag is installed, conversion data (site visits, signups, purchases) appears in campaign reports. All roles can view it; only Editors and Admins can modify the tag or attribution settings.
- Report export -- CSV and PDF export of campaign performance data requires Editor or Admin role. Viewers cannot export.
- Streaming conversion data -- Spotify provides unique streaming metrics (listeners gained, songs saved, artist page visits) for audio campaigns promoting Spotify content. These metrics are visible to all roles.
- Third-party measurement -- brand lift studies and verification reports from partners like Nielsen or DoubleVerify are visible to all roles once configured. Setting up the measurement partnership requires Admin.
Agency-Client Access Patterns
For agencies managing client Spotify ad accounts:
- The client creates the Ad Studio account and owns billing.
- The client invites agency team members as Admin or Editor.
- The agency manages campaigns; the client retains billing control.
- When the engagement ends, the client removes agency users from Team Members.
- There is no formal agency-client linking feature. Access is purely based on team member invitations.
- If an agency needs its own billing relationship, it creates a separate ad account and invites the client as Viewer.
Account Ownership
The email address that created the Spotify Ad Studio account is the Account Owner:
- The owner is permanently Admin and cannot be downgraded.
- The owner cannot be removed from the team.
- Only the owner can delete the ad account entirely.
- Ownership transfer requires contacting Spotify Ads support with business verification.
