Remove User Access - Reddit Ads

How to revoke user access and offboard team members from Reddit Ads. Covers account deletion, API key revocation, partial access removal, and security...

Overview

When team members leave your organization or no longer need access to Reddit Ads, it's critical to promptly remove their permissions to maintain account security and compliance. This guide covers the complete process for revoking user access.

Prerequisites

  • You must have Admin access to the Reddit Ads account
  • Identify the user to be removed
  • Ensure you have alternative contacts if removing the only Admin (maintain at least one Admin)
  • Document the removal for your records

When to Remove Access

Immediate Removal Required

  • Employee Termination: Remove access immediately upon departure
  • Contractor End of Engagement: Remove when contract expires
  • Security Breach: Revoke if account compromised
  • Role Change: When user no longer needs any access

Scheduled Removal

  • Known Departure Date: Remove on last working day
  • Project Completion: Remove when temporary project ends
  • Agency Transition: Remove after handoff complete

  2. User may appear in "Removed Users" or audit log
  3. User will lose access immediately (no grace period)

Immediate Effect

Access Revocation:

  • User can no longer log in to Reddit Ads Manager
  • Active sessions are terminated (may require re-login to take effect)
  • User loses access to all advertisers under the account
  • Pending invitations are canceled if user hadn't accepted yet

What Happens:

  • Campaigns created by removed user continue running
  • Reports and data remain intact
  • Removal does not affect campaign performance

Offboarding Checklist

Before Removing Access

  • Document Current Responsibilities: Note what campaigns/tasks they managed
  • Transfer Ownership: Reassign critical campaigns to other team members
  • Export Reports: Save any custom reports they created
  • Save Credentials: Collect any shared passwords or API keys
  • Review Recent Changes: Check for any pending or recent campaign modifications
  • Backup Data: Export any data they had unique access to

During Removal

  • Remove from Reddit Ads Account: Follow steps above
  • Remove from GTM/Tag Manager: Revoke access if they had it
  • Remove API Access: Revoke any API tokens or keys they generated
  • Remove from Shared Documents: Update access to SOPs, tracking plans
  • Update Team Roster: Remove from internal documentation

After Removal

  • Verify Access Revoked: Confirm user can't log in
  • Notify Remaining Team: Inform others of access removal
  • Update Contact Lists: Remove from distribution lists
  • Monitor Account Activity: Watch for any unusual activity
  • Document Removal: Log date, who removed, reason in your records

Special Scenarios

Removing the Only Admin

Warning: Never remove the last Admin from an account

If only one Admin exists:

  1. Promote another trusted user to Admin first
  2. Verify new Admin has full access
  3. Then remove the original Admin

Removing Agency Access

When transitioning away from an agency:

  1. Add internal team as Admins first
  2. Verify internal team can access everything
  3. Downgrade agency to Analyst (if you want them to retain reporting access temporarily)
  4. Or remove agency entirely for full transition
  5. Change all passwords and API keys after removal
  6. Review and update billing information

Security Best Practices

Immediate Actions

  1. Remove Access Day-Of: Don't delay removal
  2. Verify Removal: Check user list to confirm
  3. Change Shared Credentials: Update passwords/API keys they knew
  4. Review Recent Activity: Check audit logs for last actions

Ongoing Practices

  1. Regular Audits: Review user list quarterly
  2. Remove Inactive Users: Anyone who hasn't logged in for 90+ days
  3. Principle of Least Privilege: Only grant access to those who need it
  4. Document All Changes: Maintain access removal log

Troubleshooting

Can't Remove User

Error when attempting removal:

  • Verify you have Admin permissions
  • Check if you're trying to remove the only Admin (add another first)
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Try different browser
  • Contact Reddit Ads Support

User Can Still Access

After removal, user reports they can still log in:

  • Ask user to log out completely and try logging in again
  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Verify you removed correct user (check username/email)
  • Wait 5-10 minutes for changes to propagate
  • Check if they have access through different account/advertiser

Accidental Removal

Removed wrong user or removed too soon:

  1. Re-invite the user immediately (see Add User Access guide)
  2. Assign appropriate role
  3. Apologize and explain
  4. Document the error
