Overview
Google Sites does not support Google Tag Manager. Google Sites blocks all custom JavaScript, including GTM container code. There is no workaround.
Why GTM Cannot Be Installed
Google Sites is a locked-down website builder that does not allow custom JavaScript execution. This means:
- No Google Tag Manager support
- No Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or other marketing pixels
- No custom event tracking beyond what Google Sites natively provides
- No data layer access
What You Can Do
Google Analytics only: Google Sites supports native Google Analytics integration via Settings (gear icon) → Analytics. Enter your GA4 Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) and basic page view tracking will work.
If you need GTM: Migrate to a platform that supports custom code injection. Options include:
- WordPress — self-hosted, full code control
- Squarespace — hosted, code injection via Settings
- Wix — hosted, GTM integration via dashboard
- Webflow — designer-friendly, full code access
