Update User Access - Reddit Ads

Modify user roles and permission levels in Reddit Ads accounts, including Admin, Analyst, and Campaign Manager access changes.

Overview

As team responsibilities change, you may need to modify user permissions in your Reddit Ads account. This guide covers updating user roles, changing access levels, and managing permissions effectively.

Prerequisites

  • You must have Admin access to the Reddit Ads account
  • The user must already have existing access to the account
  • Determine the appropriate new permission level

Updating User Roles

Step 1: Access User Management

  1. Log in to Reddit Ads Manager
  2. Click the gear icon or navigate to Settings
  3. Select User Management from the menu
  4. View the list of current users

Step 2: Locate the User

  1. Find the user whose access you want to modify
  2. Users are listed with their Reddit username and current role
  3. Use the search function if you have many users

Step 3: Change Role

  1. Click on the user's current role or the Edit button
  2. A dropdown menu or modal will appear
  3. Select the new role from available options:
    • Admin - Full account access
    • Advertiser - Campaign management access
    • Analyst - View-only reporting access

Step 4: Confirm Changes

  1. Review the new permission level
  2. Click Save or Update
  3. Changes take effect immediately
  4. The user will be notified of the role change (if notifications enabled)

Permission Levels

Upgrading Access

Analyst → Advertiser:

  • User gains ability to create and edit campaigns
  • Can manage budgets and creatives
  • Still cannot manage users or billing

Analyst or Advertiser → Admin:

  • User gains full account control
  • Can add/remove other users
  • Access to billing and account settings
  • Exercise caution when granting Admin access

Downgrading Access

Admin → Advertiser:

  • User loses ability to manage other users
  • Cannot modify billing information
  • Retains campaign management capabilities

Admin or Advertiser → Analyst:

  • User limited to view-only access
  • Cannot create or modify campaigns
  • Can still view reports and export data

Use Cases

Promoting a Team Member

Scenario: Junior marketer ready for campaign management

Steps:

  1. Navigate to User Management
  2. Find user with Analyst role
  3. Change role to Advertiser
  4. Confirm update
  5. Notify team member of new responsibilities

Temporary Role Change

Scenario: Admin going on leave, delegating to trusted colleague

Steps:

  1. Change colleague's role from Advertiser to Admin
  2. Document the temporary change
  3. Revert role when original Admin returns
  4. Review all changes made during temporary admin period

Agency Transition

Scenario: Moving from full-service agency to self-service

Steps:

  1. Update internal team to Admin or Advertiser roles
  2. Downgrade agency access to Analyst (for reporting continuity)
  3. Or remove agency access entirely (see Remove Access guide)
  4. Verify internal team can manage campaigns independently

Account vs Advertiser-Level Access

Account-Level Permissions

  • Applies to all advertisers (sub-accounts) under the main account
  • Use for team members managing multiple brands or campaigns
  • Simpler for organizations with centralized teams

Advertiser-Level Permissions

  • Limited to specific advertiser accounts
  • Use for agencies managing multiple client accounts
  • Better for segregated responsibilities

To Update Advertiser-Level Access:

  1. Navigate to specific Advertiser settings
  2. Select User Management for that advertiser
  3. Modify roles as needed
  4. Changes only affect that specific advertiser

Verifying Changes

After updating user access:

Check User List

  1. Return to User Management
  2. Verify user shows correct new role
  3. Check that status is "Active"

Test Access (Have User Verify)

  1. Ask user to log out and back in
  2. User should see features matching new role
  3. Admin: Can access Settings and User Management
  4. Advertiser: Can create/edit campaigns
  5. Analyst: View-only access to reports

Audit Trail

Reddit Ads may maintain an audit log of permission changes:

  • Check Settings > Audit Log (if available)
  • Document changes in your own access management log
  • Note date, who made change, and reason

Troubleshooting

Changes Not Taking Effect

User still sees old permissions:

  • Have user clear browser cache and cookies
  • User should log out completely and log back in
  • Try different browser or incognito mode
  • Wait 5-10 minutes for changes to propagate

Error when saving:

  • Verify you have Admin access
  • Check internet connection
  • Try again in a few minutes
  • Contact Reddit Ads support if persists

User Can't Access Features

After upgrade to Advertiser, can't create campaigns:

  • Verify role change saved correctly
  • Check if access is account-level or advertiser-specific
  • Ensure advertiser account is active
  • Confirm no other restrictions in place

Best Practices

Regular Access Reviews

  1. Quarterly Audits: Review all users and their roles
  2. Remove Inactive Users: People who have left the organization
  3. Adjust Roles: Based on current responsibilities
  4. Document Changes: Keep log of permission updates

Principle of Least Privilege

  1. Start Low: Grant minimum necessary access initially
  2. Upgrade as Needed: Promote based on demonstrated need
  3. Regular Assessment: Review if elevated access still needed
  4. Temporary Admin: Consider time-limited Admin access for projects

Communication

  1. Notify Users: Inform team members of access changes
  2. Explain Rationale: Help users understand role changes
  3. Provide Training: For users with new elevated access
  4. Set Expectations: Clarify what new role allows/restricts

Security Considerations

  1. Limit Admin Count: Keep to essential personnel only
  2. Review Admin Activity: Monitor changes made by Admins
  3. Downgrade When Leaving: Update access before team member departure
  4. Document Ownership: Clear record of who has what access
