Add User Access
Follow this process to grant access to Amazon Advertising accounts. Amazon operates two main products - Sponsored Ads and DSP - with different access workflows. Determine which product(s) the user needs before proceeding.
When to Add Users
Add users to Amazon Advertising when:
- New campaign manager needs to create or optimize Sponsored Products, Brands, or Display campaigns
- External agency contracted to manage Sponsored Ads or DSP for specific advertisers or marketplaces
- Client requests read-only access to monitor campaign performance
- Finance or billing teams need invoice visibility
- Data analyst requires reporting access for dashboards
- Temporary contractor needs access for product launch or seasonal campaign
- DSP trader needs to manage programmatic line items
Prerequisites
Before inviting a user, gather:
- Administrator permissions on the relevant Sponsored Ads account or DSP seat
- User's Amazon-associated email (they must have or create an Amazon account)
- Which product they need: Sponsored Ads, DSP, or both
- Role needed:
- Sponsored Ads: Administrator, Editor, Viewer, or Billing
- DSP: Administrator, Operator, or Analyst
- Which marketplace accounts (Sponsored) or DSP seats/advertisers they should access
- Approval from account owner or finance team
Role selection guidance:
Sponsored Ads:
- Administrator: For users managing billing, payment methods, or other users
- Editor: For campaign managers creating and optimizing campaigns. Most common role.
- Viewer: For analysts or clients needing read-only reporting
- Billing: For accounts payable teams needing invoice access only
DSP:
- Administrator: For seat managers handling billing, users, pixels, or advertiser configuration
- Operator: For traders managing line items and campaigns. Most common role.
- Analyst: For reporting access without editing rights

Post-Invite Follow-Up
User communication
- Notify user invitation sent to their Amazon-associated email
- Provide acceptance deadline (typically 72 hours recommended, though invitation may not expire for 7-30 days)
- Confirm they have an Amazon account; if not, they must create one
- Share onboarding materials: campaign naming conventions, marketplace-specific guidelines, DSP trading strategies
Documentation
- Capture invitation details in access log:
- User email
- Role assigned (per product)
- Marketplaces or DSP seats/advertisers granted
- Date invited
- Approver name
- Screenshot pending user for compliance
Validation
- Once user accepts, verify they can:
- Sponsored Ads: See expected advertiser profiles and marketplaces
- DSP: Access correct seat and advertisers
- If Editor/Operator, verify can create campaigns/line items
- If Viewer/Analyst, verify read-only access
- If Administrator, verify can access user management and billing
Tracking and review
- Set quarterly review reminder
- If contractor, document planned removal date
- Update internal roster or SSO directory
Troubleshooting
User doesn't have Amazon account:
- They must create an Amazon account using the invited email before accepting
- Share Amazon account creation link if needed
User can't find invitation email:
- Check spam/junk folders
- Resend invitation from User management
- Verify correct email was used
User accepted but can't see expected advertisers:
- Verify correct advertiser profiles/marketplaces were assigned (Sponsored)
- Check seat and advertiser permissions (DSP)
- Have user log out and back in
Wrong role assigned:
- Edit user immediately from User management
- Role changes take effect on next login
User needs both Sponsored and DSP:
- Add them separately to each product
- They'll use same Amazon account for both
Common Use Cases
Onboarding agency for Sponsored Ads:
- Role: Editor
- Marketplaces: Those covered by contract
- Follow-up: Provide campaign naming conventions, ASIN guidelines, budget limits
Adding client stakeholder:
- Role: Viewer (Sponsored) or Analyst (DSP)
- Access: Only their own advertiser/marketplace
- Follow-up: Show dashboards, emphasize read-only limitations
Onboarding DSP trader:
- Role: Operator
- Seat/Advertisers: Specific to their portfolio
- Follow-up: Provide deal ID access, creative specs, brand safety guidelines
Adding finance team member:
- Role: Billing (Sponsored) or Administrator (DSP if they manage billing)
- Access: All relevant accounts
- Follow-up: Confirm invoice download access
Temporary contractor for launch:
- Role: Editor/Operator
- Access: Only launch-related advertiser/marketplace
- Follow-up: Document end date, set removal reminder
Best Practices
- Confirm user has Amazon account before inviting
- Start with minimal permissions and expand if needed
- Document every invitation with approver and reason
- Set review reminders for temporary users
- Separate billing from campaign roles when possible
- Add to each product separately (Sponsored and DSP are independent)
- Screenshot pending invitations for compliance
- Verify acceptance within 72 hours
